Garbage Instructions
General Guidelines
- Garbage containers must be covered & not to exceed 50 lbs.
- Remove containers by the evening of the collection day.
Bulk Items
- One (1) bulk item per week with regular garbage on 2nd collection day
- Example: chair, table, mattress, box spring.
- Maximum height & width 4 feet
- Maximum weight 50 lbs
- Carpet must be rolled & tied
Large Metal Items
- (stoves, refrigerators, etc.) Pick-up by appointment with the Highway Department (631-549-8880) Fee: $25
NOT Collected
- Construction debris/bathroom fixtures: Residents & contractors responsible for removal.
- Yard Waste/Debris - Village DOES NOT pick up yard waste & debris (grass clippings, leaves, pruning debris, branches, etc.)
Special Collections
- E-waste Collection: Call to schedule pick-up (631-549-8880)
- No electronics permitted: digital converter boxes, cable/satellite receivers, video game consoles, televisions, computers, monitors, keyboards, fax machines, printers, etc.
- Christmas tree collection: Begins 2nd Thursday in January
- RE: BULK ITEMS & LARGE METAL ITEMS - PLEASE DO NOT PUT OUT MORE ITEMS THAN PERMITTED

- ALL RECYCLABLES MUST BE CLEAN & IN SEPARATE CONTAINERS - NO PLASTIC BAGS!
GLASS
- MUST BE CLEAN! Include only:
- Household bottles, food jars, liquids, beverages, soda & water
- NO:
- Broken glass, dishware, ceramics, drinking glasses, plate glass, mirrors, light bulbs, or auto glass – place these items with regular trash.</span.
METAL & PLASTIC COLLECTION
- MUST BE CLEAN! Include only:
- Household containers, food & beverage cans, aluminum disposable pans, plastic shampoo, & detergent bottles, etc.
- NO:
- Plastic bags, plastic wrap, plastic toys, oil cans, empty paint cans, aerosols, styrofoam, batteries, medical waste, plastic housewares, hangers, flower pots, etc. - place these items with regular trash.</span.
PAPER & CARDBOARD
- MUST BE CLEAN! Include:

Catalogs, junk mail, note paper, clean scrap paper, gift boxes, cereal & pasta boxes (remove plastic liners & windows), shoe boxes, newspapers, magazines, corrugated shipping boxes, etc.
May be tied into bundles (no more than 12" high) or put in separate container.
- CARDBOARD BOXES must be flattened & tied into bundles no longer than 2' x 2' x 4'
- NO:
- Tissues, soiled paper, paper towels, milk, juice & egg cartons, all wax coated boxes, books, gift boxes, pizza boxes, etc.- place these items with regular trash.</span.
